Jeanelle Godson, LPC
Jeanelle graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, though feels that she began her counseling journey back when she graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has a deep commitment to one’s healing journey, focusing on treating depression, anxiety, and trauma, utilizing techniques such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Expressive Arts, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Through her diverse experiences working at an eating recovery center, private practice, a psychiatric hospital, and a juvenile detention center, Jeanelle understands how life’s challenges can leave individuals feeling fragmented or disconnected, recognizing how deeply isolating the sense of not belonging can be. These experiences have fueled her dedication to helping others heal and rediscover their true selves, leading to the belief that true healing begins when individuals are able to live authentically, free from judgment and societal expectations.
Guided by values of growth, authenticity, empathy, and hope, Jeanelle shapes the way she interacts with clients, ensuring a supportive and safe environment where individuals feel heard and understood. She lives by two core principles: “Progress, not perfection” and “Growth is a process.” These reminders help her focus on the journey, embracing the belief that growth takes time and setbacks are opportunities for learning.
On a personal note, Jeanelle is a first-generation Nigerian American and the youngest of four in her family. She grew up always embracing her quirky and theatrical personality, which has followed her into adulthood. In her free time, Jeanelle can often be found at open mics, roller skating in the park while enjoying K-pop, painting, dancing, or at home curled up with a good book.
